The Power Of A Two-Letter Word
To all the overwhelmed women out there. I feel you. Your plate is so full and your heart feels tired. The demands of life have taken a lot from you, and you’ve given so willing and wholeheartedly. But running on empty does not need to be your standard. There is another way. Make your well being a priority again by cutting out that which no longer serves you. Master the use of a little yet transformative word, “No”
Say “No” to catch ups with people that drain your energy with their negative talk. “No” to hours spent on obligatory tasks that aren’t your passion. “No” to taking on extra work that will deplete you or play dates that leave you feeling empty. “No” to uninspired projects that make you feel tired before they’ve began.
Say “No” to all the excess in your life and “Yes” to relaxing baths, to re-energising walks along the beach and to catch ups with people that light you up and make you feel loved and supported. Let go of the need to always be there and say “Yes” to a glass of wine and a fabulous book!
That little nudge you feel inside when you’re about to say yes to something that doesn’t align with your values, that’s your cue. Your intuitive intelligence is stepping in. Listen to it. Reconnect with it. Honor it by choosing to make space to feed your soul in a world that is constantly draining it. Put down the guilt, and embrace the liberation of letting go.
It won’t be possible all the time, I know. But there’s always room to move if you look closely at what’s important to you. Trust me, I’ve been where you are. And sometimes I fall back here.
Your plate will most likely always be full. Waiting for a simpler, quieter time that may never come is not the answer. Make space now by saying “No”. It’s ok to not be everything to everyone. Be everything to yourself, even if you start small. And watch the beautiful impact it has on you and your loved ones.
It’s ok to feel damn good about nourishing your soul but you have to make room for it. Remove that which diverts you away from being the best version of you. Reconnect to what’s important. This is your life and you’re in charge of how you use your precious energy. Say “No” to stress and constant overwhelm and “Yes” to a little more stillness. For you deserve the best this life has to offer. So stand tall and take it!
