There's Someone I Forgot To Be
Somewhere in the haze of sleepless nights and crazy days, fulfilling the needs of little people, something can start to gradually fall behind. Temporarily at first as you try to navigate the crazy path of motherhood for the first time, or maybe the second or third. Each time the intention is to come back to what lights up your soul, what you could do for hours on end and what you pine for in your sleep.
But your days seem so full now. And at the end of each one you don’t have much left. Your bones feel tired and your soul aches for rest. You just can’t seem to find any space for anything other than what is. And that’s ok. If that feels like the path you need to take, ride with it. But not for too long. When that little voice inside of you starts to make noise again, listen to it. It’s telling you that it’s time.
Time to tap back into that which your soul craves. Time to make space, no matter how small, for that which brings out the uniquely beautiful you. Remember her? The artist, the writer, the nature explorer? The dreamer, the musician, the animal lover? The fashion creator or master quilter? The entrepreneur or the global traveller? The lover of learning and the lover of life? The teacher, the student, the curious soul? The wild woman who lives by her own rules?
Remember her? She is still with you. Waiting to coexist with this stage of your life, with this role. She needs you now more than ever, and you need her. Let her back in by making space for stillness so you can hear her words and let her guide you back to where you need to be, back to yourself.
At first it may seem like there’s no room to move. You’re at full capacity already. I know. It will feel that way until you make some room at the top, and in between the small spaces that pop up here and there. Just try, slowly at first if you need, but try.
You don’t have to choose between the new you or the old. Don’t listen to the whispers of our culture, they don’t have your best interests at heart. Or the limiting beliefs you have used in the past. You can still be her and the super mama that you are, they will compliment each other beautifully, I promise.
For my darling friend, there is nothing more captivating than a woman who unapologetically dances with her untamed spirit. Who’s completely connected to her inner compass. And who’s energy buzzes with the joy and passion that comes from being her wholehearted self, in all the parts she plays. You are that woman, she is you. In whatever stage of life you sit, don’t forget to be her.
